A real estate company was found guilty of embezzling BD40,000 from a customer who wanted to buy a house that is put up for sale. The Public Prosecution charged the company with embezzlement, as well as its employee who was found to have stolen the money and was ordered to pay BD49,000 to the victim.
Both of them stood trial before the High Criminal Court. The plaintiff paid the company BD50,000 as a downpayment for the property after it was evaluated at BD134,000. The company did not complete the deal and the plaintiff was entitled to recover the full amount.
However, he only received BD10,000, and this prompted him to file a case against the company.
It was found the employee pocketed the money. “The company advertised the house and I went to them with full intention to buy it. They told me the owner wants to sell it for BD134,000, and I directly paid BD50,000.
There was the owner and an employee in the company and I handed the money to them,” the plaintiff told prosecutors.
