The Islamic Education Association began intensive preparation for the upcoming Zakat Al-Fitr project, a charity taken for the poor a few days before the end of fasting.

The preparations, abiding strictly with the COVID-19 protocols, are for reviving the ritual of Zakat Al-Fitr, thereby extending a helping hand to people in need.

According to Adel Bin Rashid Bossaiba, the Director of the National Project Department, it has prepared special food packets for distribution to those in need.

He said the association is accepting donations through its kiosks and the website tarbeia.org to distribute more than 32,000 rice buckets before the Eid prayer.

Zakat al Fitr (or Sadaqat al Fitr) is a duty paid on the occasion of Eid al Fitr by every Muslim if the total value of their Zakatable assets excluding liabilities equals or exceeds Nisab - the minimum amount that a Muslim must have before being obliged to zakat.
