An appeal has gone out by an Indian woman to find her husband who has apparently been missing in Bahrain for the last couple of days.

The 34-year-old who has been working as a nurse in the kingdom for almost 10 years has been having marital problems with Manish Keshavan since their marriage took place at their native in Kerala last September.

According to the wife, the couple met through an Indian matrimonial website almost a year ago in which he had advertised himself as a divorcee.

However, the 36-year-old has been accused of hiding the fact that he had not dissolved the marriage with his first wife.

“He pocketed more than Rs20,00,000 (BD10,400) in cash and 30 sovereigns of gold (worth nearly BD5,300) from me since our marriage,” she told the News of Bahrain, requesting anonymity.

“Before our marriage, he convinced me and my parents that his parents were already dead and his only living relative was a sister working in the UK with whom he was not on good terms.

“He said he had divorced his first wife eight years ago and was on bad terms with all his relatives after a failed family business. He had also claimed to be a financially well off businessman with a technical diploma.

“When we asked him for the certificate of divorce from his first wife, he said he had lost it, including several other important documents in the Kerala floods a couple of years ago.

“He spoke very convincingly and his good behaviour gave us no reason for doubt.” However all of this later turned out to be a farce, she said.

“A couple of months before our marriage I quit from my job in Bahrain since I wanted to live with my new husband in our native.
“But after our marriage in September, he began demanding money from my savings which I did not deny because he was now my husband.

“He then started getting impatient since I was not earning now and had become a housewife.
“It was on his insistence that I returned to Bahrain in December to find a new job.”

By the end of March Manish too joined his wife here and it was while looking for a job that he was forced to reveal that he was not as qualified as he had claimed to be.

This raised further doubts in his wife who found; on further investigation that Manish was still married to his first wife.
According to her, his first wife is aware of this marriage and is a party to Manish’s con of marrying gullible women to rob them of their savings.

Last week, Manish was confronted about all these allegations by the woman and her colleagues at their Mahooz flat.
Though Manish confessed to his offences in a video clip and a handwritten letter, he then tried to kill himself by jumping out of their flat on the ninth floor, she said.

He was immediately rescued due to timely intervention and the witnesses’ presence of mind. However, this commotion resulted in everyone there being taken into custody by the police.

It was after being released from there, that Manish has run away and is now still absconding. A man missing case has been filed against him at the Nabih Saleh Police Station and a complaint has been raised at the Indian Embassy too.

Anyone with information on Manish’s whereabouts may please contact any one of these offices.
