'All Covid -19 vaccines available in Bahrain are effective'

All the Covid-19 jabs available in Bahain are effective against the COVID-19 virus and its mutations, Lt. Col. Dr Manaf Al Qahtani said.

Vaccination, the Infectious Disease Consultant & Microbiologist at the BDF Hospital and a member of the National Medical Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus said, contributes to reducing the spread of the virus and the fast relieving of symptoms.

Out of the 197 cases that required intensive care yesterday, 85% was non-vaccinated people, and 15% were vaccinated people, but having underlying diseases and conditions.

Al Qahtani said that 75% of the people eligible for vaccination had received their first dose or 57% of the total population. Vaccinated group mortality at 6% When asked about the mortality rate, Al Qahtani said that 6% of 422 deaths, recorded from January to 19 May 2021, were among those who took both jabs.

94% of the casualties were of non-vaccinated people.

Eight deaths were registered yesterday among seven non-vaccinated individuals.

“Contributing mostly to this situation was gatherings amongst people residing in the same housing colonies,” he confirmed. Gatherings with children, who continued as carriers, made the scenario worse. Vaccinate children Al Qahtani called on parents to get their children aged between 12 and 17 years inoculated immediately to protect them.

“We call on all parents to enrol their children in the national initiative to take the jabs.”

He also urged all those who had completed six months after taking the second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine to take their booster dose.

Frontline workers, medical personnel, those aged 50 years and above, those who are obese and having immunodeficiency diseases should register for their booster dose.

He also pointed out that those who completed two jabs and 14 days period comes to 37.2% of the total population or 48.6% of the people eligible for vaccination.
