Athlete Nasser Bakhit dies in an accident on Al Riffa street

Bahraini sports yesterday lost one of its star athlete, Salem Nasser Bakhit, to a tragic road accident in the Al Haniniya area in Riffa, plunging the Kingdom into deep despair. Reports say the mishap occurred when the car Bakhit was driving lost control and rammed into a garden fence.
Salem Nasser Bakhit, born in 1977, is a Bahraini athlete who specialises in the high jump. One of his top success is the silver medal at the 2002 Asian Championships.
Bakhit’s personal bests of 2.19 metres outdoors and 2.13 metres indoors, both set in 2006, are current national records.
The Ministry of Interior, in a Tweet, said a 44-year-old man lost his life in a road accident on Al Riffa Street.
The ministry said the accident took place early morning yesterday in Al Haniniya District, and the driver of the vehicle died on impact.
Police responded to the incident immediately and transferred the victim to a hospital. Authorities at that time hadn’t disclosed the identity of the victim.
Interior Ministry also tweeted that competent authorities are at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing.
