Bahrain's largest blood donation drive opens today

The 17th edition of Imam Hussain Blood Donation Campaign will open this evening.

Around a thousand people are expected to take part, when Bahrainis as well as expatriates will gather at Naim Health Centre here to donate blood today and tomorrow.  The annual blood donation drive is regarded as the largest of its kind in the Kingdom.

The campaign will receive female donors today while male donors can take part tomorrow.

Speaking to DT News, Imam Hussain Blood Donation Campaign Vice President Ahmed AlSakri stressed that campaign is receiving donors from all nationalities and religions.

"All nationalities and religions are welcome, we are all of the same human nature and we are not targeting any specific group as such,” he said, “This is a campaign for a humanitarian cause – It does not matter whether you are Christian, Buddhist, Sunni or Shia.” The online registration facility which was incorporated two years ago has been a great success, he added.

He also affirmed the campaign will continue its partnership with Bahrain Society for Sickle Cell and Anaemia care.
