Bahraini man jailed over fake investment scheme

A Bahraini man has been jailed for five years for conning victims out of a half-million Bahraini dinars after deceiving them that he was a consultant at a ministry.
According to court files, the majority of the defendant’s victims were women, who were interested to invest their money. The defendant claimed that he was a high-ranking consultant at a ministry, and he offered his victims the opportunity to invest their money and take advantage of his influence and authority.
Moreover, he also scammed other victims that he could employ them at ministries, and they paid him for this too. However, they discovered that this was a trick too. The defendant reportedly searched for women who were having family troubles to embezzle the money from them.
He came under the limelight after he transferred BD85,000 to Europe, and he claimed that the money went to a European woman, with whom he was in love.
The man was a retiree and he denied during questioning before prosecutors conning his victims, claiming that he received several loans, part of which he transferred to the European woman and bought the cars. He also claimed that was working as a broker in selling vehicles. The Bahraini man was also fined BD20,000.
