‘No Swine flu deaths; over 2800 vaccinated

Infectious Diseases Specialist and Head of Microbiology and Infection Control Committee at Bahrain Defense (BDF) Hospital, Dr. Manaf Al Qahtani assured that there have been no recent Swine Flu deaths.

According to Dr. Al Qahtani, more than 2800 people were vaccinated against the disease in the last five days as part of the educational campaign by the hospital administration.

In a statement released to Bahrain News Agency (BNA), the specialist said that the medical services confirmed that cases related to epidemic influenza were under full control and the disease would soon to be non-existent. The statement stressing that there was no danger to the public health.

The doctor also said that in an analysis of 285 suspected samples of seasonal flu from September 28 till yesterday was also carried out, stressing that since the beginning of Hajj season, the safety of citizens, residents and workers in the health sector were ensured.

The analysis reported 119 cases of influenza – of which except 14 patients, the rest were now stable reaching full recovery. Most of them were pregnant women and children that were only admitted to be monitored and were discharged after stability.

Dr. Al Qahtani said the medical services have started awareness campaigns through social media and educational seminars that explains ways of the diseases transmission and how to prevent it.
