Students of the Riffa preparatory schools for boys are being put through their paces in preparation for the fifteenth national competition for future scholars, notwithstanding the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Researches and development projects are ongoing remotely at full pace, with the support of the Student Welfare Center.
When asked about the ongoing projects, Riffa school Director, Dr Nasser Abdel-Rab, explained that they are working on multiple projects in various disciples. “Among them, the thermoelectric generator, developed by student Abdul Rahman Turki, is worth mentioning,” he said.
He also highlighted the possibilities of the oil, with clean energy generation, project, which was ranked third in the middle school scientific innovation category.
The school, he said, is also focusing on enhancing students’ skill in robotics and artificial intelligence. Students Muhammad Marwan, Saif Suleiman, and Diaa Tariq, he said, are working on the EV3 robot project. The project aims at developing the skills of middle school students in robotics and artificial intelligence.
“Projets like EV3 are also for ensuring the participation of Bahraini students in international robotics and artificial intelligence competitions,” he added. Dr Rab said they are also developing biological control of environmental and soil pollutants by using locally available materials, which are also affordable.
All of the projects are under the supervision of the science teacher at the school, Professor Ashraf Ahmed. The school is also holding workshops for professional development for teachers as part of the ‘Riffa Efficiency and Entrepreneurship’ project series led by the first teacher of the Arabic language, Abbas Ali Radhi.
