The Health Ministry took action yesterday against 38 restaurants and cafes for violating mandatory precautionary measures which were announced by the National Medical Taskforce for Combating COVID-19 and approved by the Executive Committee.

The Food Control Section at the Public Health Directorate visited 192 restaurants and cafes and referred the outlets which were found in breach of the mandatory precautionary measures and referred them to competent legal authorities.

The Health Ministry coordinated the clampdown with the Interior Ministry and the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) to ensure compliance with the precautionary measures and protocols.

The Ministry said that the restaurants facing legal acting had flouted the procedures and terms stipulated in the ministerial edict 51 of 2020 on mandatory health protocols at restaurants and cafes to curb COVID-19 infections.

Based on these mandatory precautionary measures and protocols, a restaurant has been shut down for one week, said the Health Ministry in a statement yesterday.

Owners whose outlets were warned over the irregularities immediately in compliance with the mandatory precautionary measures.
