UNCT to celebrate United Nations Day

The UN Country Team (UNCT) in Bahrain will mark the United Nations Day on Monday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the United Nations.

On June 26 last year, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki moon announced the start of the global celebration of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, which aims to honour the historic breadth of the organization’s development, security and human rights work.

In line with this global campaign and in honour of the milestone, the UN Country Team in Bahrain, with the support of the Government of Bahrain, will celebrate United Nations Day with a reception at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel to shed light on the historic partnership between the Kingdom and the UN.

The highlight of this year’s reception will be the launch of the trailer of a documentary focusing on the history of Bahrain’s engagement with the UN from independence to its growing international role on the world stage.

This will be followed by the official inauguration of a photo exhibition showcasing key moments from Bahrain’s participation at the UN.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa will deliver a statement on behalf of the Government of Bahrain.  This will be followed by a statement from Peter Grohmann, UN Resident Coordinator & UNDP Resident Representative.
