Tepid response to scrap tyre removal
The Manama General Secretariat’s efforts to remove unused tyres from the streets get lukewarm response. In a residential area in Jid Ali, tyres are found strewn in the open ground, where children used to play.
The municipality has already given the tender to collect the waste and other unusable articles from Central Governorate and Muharraq area to the Gulf City Cleaning Company (GCCC). But the public and the tyre shop workers are yet to avail themselves of the option provided by the Manama General Secretariat.
“We are in charge of the collection of waste and unwanted tyres from the areas under the Manama General Secretariat, which include Capital Governorate and Muharraq. The vehicles will come every alternate days and the tyre shopkeeper just need to dial the municipality hotline number when they have around 20 to 30 tyres. It will be picked up from their shop by our vehicles,” said Hisham Alhaddad, GCCC, Public Relations Head.
The initiative by the municipality is to safeguard the public and stop illegal use of tyres by the protestors, who normally use tyres to block roads or burn them during protests.
The tyre shop workers and anybody within Manama Municipality, who require the waste or unwanted tyres to be removed can dial the municipality hotline: 80001855, e-mail: info@gulfcitycleaning.com
