The Ministry of Transport and Communications’ Meteorological Department has denied that an earthquake occurred in the Kingdom of Bahrain yesterday afternoon.
An official source at the department confirmed to Al Ayam that the seismic station in Bahrain and neighbouring countries had not detected an earthquake.
The source said that the Meteorological Department contacted the seismic department and confirmed that no tremors were detected in Bahrain or any area close to it.
Citizens had shared on social media that they felt an earthquake in several coastal areas in Muharraq, Manama and the Northern Governorate at around 12:50 pm.
This was accompanied by the Fars News Agency’s announcement that a 4.6-magnitude earthquake had hit the outskirts of the city of Rawar in Rumman province, southeast of Iran. One tweeter wrote: “We felt the shaking of the windows and tables in a very perceptible way.”
