Col. Hamad Al Khayat, the Director of Operations of the Public Security Presidency, said police and officials concerned with all security departments are working 24/7 to ensure compliance with the COVID-19 measures since the start of the outbreak. Violators, he said, will face strict legal actions.
He also said that the National Ambulance services are under tremendous pressure during the current period, as they have to keep the vehicle out of service for a given period for sterilisation after each transportation. “This is exerting tremendous pressure on the service as well as hospitals.” National Ambulance services, he said, is attending around 400 cases daily, which includes existing cases of Corona and other emergencies.
To handle the situation, Al Khayat said, the services had increased the number of medical and other staff and implemented new mechanisms to classify cases before attending. “Till date, the transport ministry transferred 100,428 patients and implemented 36,662 mechanisms.”
He also announced referring 3,591 people to the public prosecution for violations related to COVID-19 measures. Al Khayat said that the COVID-19 violators of home quarantine would attract up to three months imprisonment or a fine, not less than 1,000 dinars and not more than 10,000 dinars.
He also revealed taking legal actions against those found guilty of spreading rumours. On this note, Al Khayat called on all to desist from spreading rumours that would negatively impact society. “Compliance to COVID-19 preventive measures is a national duty, and all members of the community should adhere to it, especially when it comes to the health and safety of all,” said Al Khayat.
