Top Indian diplomat bids farewell to Bahrain

A top Indian diplomat bid farewell to Bahrain yesterday (June 6) after completing his tenure of almost three years at the Indian Embassy here.

Norbu Negi served as the first secretary at the mission in Seef.

He was instrumental in repatriating hundreds of Indians from Bahrain stranded here as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Due to the travel restrictions in place globally during the past year, India had launched the Vande Bharat Mission to evacuate their citizens from other countries.

Negi was the charge d’affaires when India and Bahrain agreed on an air bubble contract.

His next posting will be as the Protector of Emigrants at the Indian External Affairs Ministry at Chandigarh.

He takes with him the fondest of memories from Bahrain of his professional and personal association with the people here.

He had joined the mission in Bahrain in towards the end of 2018 as a language trainer, and was later promoted to second secretary and then first secretary.

He had previously served in France, the Seychelles, Washington DC and Azerbaijan.

Mr Negi hails from Manali in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

His wife Asha is a homemaker and the couple has two sons Riyyan, 13 and Anvit, nine.

In Bahrain, he will be succeeded by Ihjas Aslam.
