A Jaffaria Waqf director in the dock for wasting BD60m

A Jaffaria Waqf Directorate employee is in the dock for wasting a whopping BD 60 million from the exchequer. The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with wasting public money and receiving a bribe of BD16,000 in return for reclassifying a land plot for a businesswoman. Public Prosecution also charged the businesswoman in connection with this case.
The court files say the suspect was a director at the Waqf Directorate’s land classification department. The petitioner accuses him of accepting the bribe through his wife. The woman told investigators that she was asked not to write her name on the receipt.
However, he could not honour his word, resulting in the woman filing a case. The ensuing investigation also uncovered illegal practices that left the state with losses amounting to BD60 million. Investigators presented the court evidence proving the acceptance of the bribe and the employee’s hand in losing exchequer BD60 million.
