The Kingdom’s top lawmakers yesterday hailed the royal directives to extend a financial and economic stimulus package for three more months in a bid to mitigate the economic impact of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The stimulus is designed to help Bahraini citizens and privately-owned businesses cope with the pandemic. As part of this extension, the government will pay the salaries of Bahraini private-sector employees for three months from June 2021 to August 2021.

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has directed His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to oversee the implementation of the royal directives. Shura Council Chairman Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh said HM King’s directives are a reflection of the royal care and keenness to ease the burdens on the citizens. Speaking during a meeting held yesterday with a number of ministers, in the presence of the Shura Council Office members, Al Saleh commended the direct follow-up of HM the King on citizens’ welfare.

The Shura head praised the dedicated efforts of the government, led by HRH Prince Salman to work out appropriate programmes for social and economic issues.

Council of Representatives Speaker Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal extended deepest thanks, appreciation and gratitude to HM the King, noting that the kind gesture reflects the royal unwavering keenness to support his citizens and fatherly care about their conditions and needs.

The Speaker lauded the government’s positive response to the demands of lawmakers to provide the necessary support for the citizens and hardest-hit sectors in order to overcome the repercussions resulting from the pandemic.

MP Hamad Al Kooheji noted that this support is a guarantee of the stability of the Bahraini economy and the continuation of production in the labour market. He stressed that the spirit of humanity and concern for the Bahraini people from HM the King is clearly evident in extending support to those affected by the pandemic.

MP Hisham Ahmed Al Ashery expressed appreciation to His Majesty for showing sympathy to citizens at all times and circumstances.

He pointed out that extending the financial and economic package would achieve stability for the private sector and the citizens working in it.
