Bahrain’s veteran expat doctor dies of Covid-19

One of Bahrain’s longest-serving doctors passed away early today morning of complications related to Covid-19.

Dr Valsalan Raghavan was the Emergency Medicine Physician at the Ministry of Interior.

The 76-year-old was working at the Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) in the Accidents and Emergency Department for the last 47 years.

He saw the SMC develop from a small health centre to a multi-speciality hospital and thereon to a medical university.

He was a strategic part of the Bahrain National Disaster Management and the Formula One Bahrain Emergency Team.

He was the Emergency Physician of the VIP Tower at Formula One Bahrain.

He was being treated for the coronavirus at Sitra field Intensive Care Unit hospital. 

He leaves behind his wife Meera, sons Rakesh and Brijesh.
