Shaikha Mai elected to World Monument Fund’s board

Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, the President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, was elected yesterday by a unanimous vote to the Board of Trustees of the World Monument Fund.
Shaikha Mai, the first Arab personality to reach such a post, thanked the Fund and its President and Chief Executive Officer, Bénédicte de Montlaur, for electing her.
The New York-based World Monument Fund said that Shaikha Mai’s membership would significantly support its efforts to protect and preserve unique cultural sites and communities.
The World Antiquities Fund, established in New York City in 1965, is a private, international, non-profit organization dedicated to preserving historic architecture and cultural heritage sites around the world through fieldwork, advocacy, grantmaking, education, and training.
