Energy Minister's father to be immortalised

Brigadier General Ali Mirza, father of Minister of Energy Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza, is set to be honoured with a road being named after him.

Brigadier General Ali Mirza was among the first policemen in Bahrain honoured for their contribution to the development of public security in the Kingdom.

A decision was made by the Members of Capital secretariat to name a road in Bilad Al Qadeem after Brigadier General Ali in recognition of his achievements.

The Brigadier General was one of the first citizens to join the police and is known for his involvement in the development of public security services. He was promoted to Corporal and worked in the position for nine years before becoming Second Lieutenant in 1934. He passed away in 1985.

Speaking to DT News, the Minister said "Firstly, I would like to thank the political leadership for their generosity in naming one of the road in my father's name. I want to thank Capital Secretariat Chairman Mohammed Kozaie and the members of the Capital Secretariat for their agreement in naming the road. This is a great news for our family, we are honored that his name has been used in this way. We see this is a source of pride for us.”

"My father's greatest achievement was that he devoted his life for the service of the country, its leadership as well as the people of Bahrain. He spent 50 years in the service and during this period he was loved and respected by everybody in the country." he added.

Capital Secretariat Chairman Mohammed Kozaie said that the formalities are in its final stages. "Brigadier General Mirza was hugely important in developing public security service in Bahrain. It was clear to us that he was a name worth remembering and honoring. First we wanted to name a road in Manama near to the house where he grew up. Because of certain restrictions we could not do that. Then we decided on another road, a road close to where some of his children grew up."
