Government begins paying salaries of Bahraini private sector employees for three months

Bahrainis working in private companies hardest hit by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic will soon receive their salaries as part of the government’s efforts to support them financially.
This was assured by the Cabinet yesterday during its weekly meeting chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, and held remotely. The wages of insured Bahraini private sector employees will be paid through the Unemployment Insurance Fund for a period of three months, 100% for the first month and 50% for the second and third months.
The support forms part of the financial and economic package extended by the government for three more months, from June 2021 to August 2021, to mitigate the impact of the pandemic, protect jobs and preserve the Kingdom’s sustainable development.
The 12 sectors which will get financial lifeline include training and rehabilitation (including kindergartens), retail sector (excluding foodstuff ), travel and tourism, restaurants and hospitality, personal services (salons, gyms, play areas and entertainment), local newspapers and magazines, administrative services (public relations, media and event organisers), industrial, health (excluding clinics and hospitals), transportation, real estate and engineering, technical and construction offices.
In this regard, the Cabinet reviewed the memorandum of Finance and National Economy Minister Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa on the mechanisms for implementing a decree-law on unemployment insurance.
The Cabinet also outlined the efforts of various stakeholders in the implementation of health service initiatives and the promotion of primary health care, in response to the order of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to provide services 24 hours a day at nine health centres in various governorates of the Kingdom.
Once again, the Cabinet stressed the importance of complying with COVID-19 precautionary measures and vaccinations as well as booster shots to keep oneself and the community safe against the virus. On the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, also known as World Drug Day, the Cabinet thanked the Interior Ministry and all those who continue to fight the drugs, emphasising the importance of strengthening cooperation with the international community to tackle the problem.
The Cabinet congratulated Gulf Air on the occasion of its 70th anniversary, noting that the company’s achievement of implementing its development plans and programmes have enhanced its position in the aviation industry.
