HM King orders road in Muharraq to be named after late Bahraini football star

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa sent a cable of condolences to the family of the Bahraini football star and former Muharraq Club player Ahmed Yousef bin Salmeen.

His Majesty the King expressed his sincere condolences and sympathy on the passing of bin Salmeen, praying to Allah the Almighty to rest the soul of the deceased in vast paradise. 

His Majesty praised the contributions of the deceased in serving the country and the Muharraq Club and the achievements he made in his career since the 1950’s, noting that he left a rich football legacy for generations in the Kingdom.

In appreciation of the deceased’s role and dedication in the service of sports and Bahraini football, His Majesty the King ordered to name the road adjacent to Muharraq Club with “Ahmed bin Salmeen Road”, stressing that Bahrain is proud of its loyal men who left significant fingerprints in the history of Bahrain in all fields.

The chairman of the board of directors of the Bahrain Football Association Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa mourned the legend that passed away yesterday.

Mr Salmeen, who scored the first goal in the history of Arab Gulf Cup tournaments, notably in the first edition in 1970 held in Bahrain, and the goal came against the Qatari team.

He is considered one of the stars of Bahraini football and has participated in many international and Arab forums with the national team.
