The widely popular Riffa central market in Bahrain is to get a makeover with the work ministry planning an extensive renovation. According to the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, the supermarket, vegetables and fruits market, meat market, service building, and other infrastructures are in for a comprehensive revamp.
The market will also get an upgrade for its electrical and plumbing works to meet the growing needs.
The ministry also said it is planning to complete the works quickly in 10 months. Tendering process for the works has begun, and interested parties can make their bids for the contract before the 28th of this month.
The ministry requires that only prequalified contractors are authorised to bid for the contract, which also calls for an initial bond of BD2,500. Riffa, according to netizens, is one of the best markets in Bahrain for buying vegetables and meat. The vegetables and meat available at the market are also rated fresh by many customers online.
Some people had also pointed out that though the market is ‘nice’, the products available are a bit expensive, compared to Manama central market. However, several others think that rates are cheap when compared to other supermarkets.
People had also come online to point out that the market requires renovation and restoration, especially in the fish and meat markets. Requests are also there to move the market to another suitable location as the current place is narrow and adjacent to the commercial market, with fewer parking spaces.
