The Philippines and Bahrain have carried out the deportation of a wanted man back to the Kingdom. The move was a testament to the two governments’ intensified commitment to fight criminality and to bring law offenders to justice.

A team of police escorts from Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior travelled to the Philippines to receive the deportee from officers of the Philippine Bureau of Immigration’s Interpol Unit in the presence of a team from the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila who were on hand to provide assistance during the transfer of the detainee. Records show that the Bahraini national who assaulted a female victim at his apartment fled to the Philippines in 2016.

Upon the request of Bahrain authorities, officials of the Philippine Bureau of Immigration arrested the individual at his residence in Dasmariñas, Cavite on 23 February 2021.

A summary deportation order was thereafter issued by the BI’s Board of Commissioners to expel him from the country. The Philippine Embassy in Manama coordinated the mission to implement the agreement between Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr., Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, and Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, in a meeting held via videoconference on 12 March 2021.

The Embassy thanks and commends all the Bahrain and Philippine government agencies involved in ensuring the success of the mission.

Vaccination programme

Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy assisted the second batch of Filipino expatriates who registered for its vaccination programme, “Bakuna Embahada Para Kay Juan at Juana”, on Saturday at the Sitra Mall Vaccination Center.

A total of 382 undocumented overseas Filipinos received their first shot. This is in addition to the 204 undocumented overseas Filipinos who were vaccinated on 12 June, bringing the total beneficiaries of the programme to 586. The Embassy continues to encourage members of the Filipino community to get vaccinated for their own protection and the safety of all in Bahrain.
