The Works Ministry has started installing a monument depicting Bahrain diverse pottery tradition as part of the multi-million dollar Sheikh Zayed Highway development project. Huda Abdullah Fakhro, the Assistant Undersecretary for Roads at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, said the installation would complete in ten days. “We fixed the location for the installation following discussions and in agreement with the Municipal Council after holding feasibility checks at several sites,” Fakhro said, adding that the project is now 83% completed.

The ministry, she said, is also working to install a new traffic signal on Street 12. Works are currently progressing in the portion between AMA University and Shaikh Isa bin Salman street. “Concrete barriers and layers are being placed in preparation for laying asphalt.” “Construction of Sewage lines, pumping stations and rainwater drainage network is also progressing,” she added.

Huda Abdullah Fakhro said the Sheikh Zayed Road expansion project is one of the strategic projects to improve Bahrain’s road network. The project, she said, would help reduce traffic congestions and enhance road safety.

The project includes the development of Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Street and its expansion from two to three lanes in each direction. The BD23.4 million project, which will convert roundabouts into traffic lights, and renovates several streets, is funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, is a part of the Gulf Development Programme.
