Virtual graduation for Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain students

A total of 92 students got their graduations in a virtual conferring ceremony by The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – the Medical University of Bahrain for their class of 2021, in an event reflective of realities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Held under the patronage of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the ceremony was for 84 Bachelor students from the School of Nursing and Midwifery and eight Nursing Master graduates from the School of Postgraduate Studies and Research.

Make “invaluable contribution to patient care” and “invaluable contribution to patient care” at this challenging time, Lieutenant General, Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, on behalf of HRH CP and PM, told the graduates in his address.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person graduation ceremonies have cancelled all across the world. President of RCSI Bahrain, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI, Professor P. Ronan O’Connell, and Chancellor of NUI (National University of Ireland), Dr Maurice Manning, were present. Professor Otoom said the graduates had overcome unexpected difficulties to reach this stage, thanks to the incredible support of partner hospitals.

Professor of Surgery and Head of Department of Surgery at RCSI Bahrain, Professor Martin Corbally, virtually presented the graduates with their degrees with the Director of Bachelor of Science Nursing Programme, Dr Eman Tawash, and the Director of the Masters in Nursing Programme, Professor Maura Pidgeon.

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Head of School of Medicine of RCSI Bahrain, Professor Alfred Nicholson, presented awards to the highest achieving students.

Top achievers

The School of Nursing and Midwifery class valedictorian Jenan Ahmed Hasan Albaqali received the BSc Nursing Overall Gold Medal, Year Four Bronze Medal and Year Three Silver Medal.

The BSc Nursing Year Four Silver Medal and Rufaida Alaslamia Prize in Nursing went to Maryam Mohamed Bujandal and the MSc Nursing Gold Medal to Elizabeth Spyropoulos. Zainab Sayed Husain won the Nursing Year One Bronze Medal and Nursing Year Two Silver Medal. The Nursing Year One Silver Medal and Nursing Year Two and Year Three Bronze Medals went to Hawra Abdulla Hasan.
