Consultants named for Bahrain Metro line extension project

A team of consultants had started working on the nearly $2 billion metro extension project, a new report had said. The consultancy is for extending the metro corridor from King Hamad Railway Station at Alramli area to the new sports City and the International Exhibition Centre at Sakhir area, The selected advisors, consultancy-me reported, started helping the authorities shortlist a suitable engineering consultancy to create a design for the extension project.
KPMG, DLA Piper
KPMG is the financial advisor of the project, which also has several other consultancies involved. French multinational infrastructure group Egis is managing the technical side, while DLA Piper is the legal advisor.
The ministry’s project team handles the whole project from bidding to its execution and received 11 bids against a tender launched in March this year for Phase 1 of the Metro Rail Project.
Alternative corridor
The tender focused on assessing the possibility of an alternative corridor, demand study and station allocation, concept and preliminary design of corridor and cost estimation.
Taking part in the tender were Egis, Gulf markets International, Consolidated Engineering Company Khatib & Alami Foreign Branch Company, Rina Consulting Spa- Abu Dhabi, Mohamed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering Bureau, Ener Ingernierai y Sistemas, IDOM Consulting Engineering Architecture SAU Foreign Branch, Dar Al Handash Consultants, Intecsainarsa, Ace Consulting Engineers (Moharram - Bakhoum) and Partner and AECOM Middle East Limited Foreign Branches Company.
Eight shortlisted
Consultancy-me says MTT had shortlisted eight from the list: Aecom; Gulf Markets International, Khatib & Alami, Mohamed Salahuddin Consulting Engineering, Sener Ingenieria y Sistemas, Dar Al Handasah, Intecsainarsa and Egis itself.
109 km rail
The ministry had earlier identified the need for 109 kilometres of metro- where the first phase will have a length of 29 km, 20 stations and two lines.
The first line (red) will be connecting Airport to Seef District through Airport Avenue and King Faisal Highway. The other line (blue) will connect Juffair to the Educational area in Isa Town through King Faisal Highway, passing by the Diplomatic and Bab Al Bahrain.
The passengers can transfer between the two lines in Bab al Bahrain and al Farooq Junction stations. In terms of capacity, the system could carry 43,000 passengers per hour.
