National plan provides more quality job opportunities for Bahrainis: Humaidan

Labour and Social Development Minister and Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Board of Directors Chairman Jamil bin Mohammad Ali Humaidan praised the Cabinet’s decision to adopt the National Labour Market Plan 2021-2023.

The plan reflected the visions and directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to develop the labour market in accordance with the basic principles of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 of sustainability, competitiveness and justice.

It will contribute in creating quality job opportunities for citizens and making them the best choice for employment, in addition to continuing to develop control and regulatory procedures and enhancing the contributions of the private sector in the labour market.

The Minister stressed that the plan took into account the challenges facing the labour market and previous achievements that promotes economic growth, serves the objectives of developing capabilities and skills of national human resources, and improves the means and the mechanisms.

He referred to the many unprecedented measures that have been taken to maintain the stability of the labor market in Bahrain during the pandemic and proved the Kingdom’s ability and the support and cooperation of the business sector to deal with these challenges with responsibility.

The plan seeks to achieve the principle of preferential employment for citizens, and to develop a mechanism for attracting foreign workers. It is also taking advantage of the initiatives launched by the government to reduce the economic repercussions of the pandemic and ensure the stability of national employment in the labour market by paying the salaries of citizens working in the private sector.

As well as supporting successful experiences such as the parttime work system and remote work, which takes into account flexible work requirements in some jobs capable of benefiting from the productive female workforce with the directions of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women 2013- 2022, which is supervised by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and aims to make Bahraini women’s participation in the labour market sustainability.

The plan stressed the importance of regulating workers’ housing licensing and adhering to safety requirements in these establishments, provided that continuous follow-up of these accommodations to ensure the safety and rights of workers, in addition to intensifying efforts and measures aimed at controlling irregular workers and reducing their numbers in the labour market.
