The coasts of Lake Lawzi is to get a grand makeover through a BD145,058 project set to begin next month. The tender board has awarded the project to Al Dur Contracting Company for Excavation and Building, said the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
The lake in the Northern Governorate near Dumistan and Hamad Town will see its coastal slopes on the eastern side restored as part of the project.
The planned works are for a stretch of 700 metres, said the ministry. “This lake is the main reservoir for collecting rainwater with a capacity of 650,000 cubic meters,” said the minister, highlighting its environmental significance to the region. The lake, the minister said, attracts various types of flora and fauna and provides a natural place for people and residents of the region.
The ministry said they are studying various solutions for maintaining the cleanliness of its water. The ministry is also carrying out infrastructure development work in the Lawzi area. Road construction is ongoing to the Lawzi housing southeast of Zaid Bin Ambra Street and west of Lake Lawzi.
