Jameel Humaidan, the Minister of Labour and Social Development, yesterday visited several construction worksites unannounced to learn about the commitment of the establishments in implementing the summer work ban.
The minister praised the companies and organisations for implementing the noon work ban, revealing that they found only 15 violating facilities after 3,344 inspection visits since early July. “This comes to only 0.4% of the companies, while 26 workers were detected breaking summer ban rules, till date,” the minister said.
Bahrain, Humaidan said, had made great strides in enhancing the safety and health of workers through legislation and occupational safety measures, also earning respect from the international community. “Working when the temperature is lower will lead to increased productivity and ensure the completion of the projects on time.” “Work ban decision has a tangible and direct impact in preventing summer disease, heat stress, sunstroke, heat exhaustion from exposure to high temperatures and humidity,” the minister added.
As per Law No. (36) for 2012, violators attract a jail term not exceeding three months, a fine ranging between BD 500 and BD1,000, or one of them
