Huge response for blood donation camp

Over a thousand people have donated blood at the 17th Imam Hussain Blood Donation Campaign being held from Thurday to Saturday.

The annual blood donation drive, which is regarded as the largest of its kind in the Kingdom, lived up to its expectations with a huge turnout.

The campaign got underway on Thursday with women donating blood, while men donated blood yesterday.

Health Minister Faeqa bint Saeed Al-Saleh also visited the event held at Naim Health Center in Manama.

"Overall, it was bigger and better than last year. This campaign is for a humanitarian cause and we welcomed people of nationalities and religions. The blood bank gave us a quota on how much blood can be accepted and we worked according to that. The public response has been great so far," Campaign Vice President Ahmed AlSakri told DT News.

Organizers said the online booking service for seats at the venue was a big hit. The website was launched two years ago and it has been accepted pretty well, organizers said.

"This year we had 150 seats for online registration and all of them was booked within 2 hours," an organizer from IT department said.
