An escape to colours
Times of hardships and struggle for life could not simply put Nariman Adel off from devoting herself for art. Even at difficult times, Nariman paddled her boat with confidence, which lead her to the realization of all her passions towards art and designing.
Nariman Adel is a young Egyptian artist cum designer who has spent all her life in Bahrain. During her stay in Egypt, she was greatly inspired by her grandfather who is the reason she became a self-taught artist. Both her grandparents were creative people as her grandfather gave her colouring supplies and taught her how to sketch, while her grandmother taught her embroidery and knitting.
As a kid, art was Nariman’s escape to create and handcraft things, as she grew up she knew that the feeling of creating art will be a lasting happy place for her.
After facing few years of difficult times moving in with just her mother and sisters, this shaped and developed the source of strength and determined Nariman felt to bring out the best in herself and to make her mother proud.
Her passion grew and branched out towards other interests such as music, photography, baking and gymnastics.
As she failed to find a fine arts course in the country, she pushed for a field that would somehow lead her to her love for art. So she applied for Interior Design and she will be graduating this year.
Talking to DT News, Nariman reveled her philosophy, “The development of my art is in a never ending journey because it is the only way I can be myself.”
Joining university meant putting her heart and mind to her work. Soon, she realized that wasn’t enough and decided to get out of the shell of shynewss and awkwardness to be as creative as possible and putting her art out there by participating in events.
She started her serious volunteer work with Bahrain Special Olympics, Market 338: The Nest, University Green Week and Bahrain Engineering Society events.
When Nariman volunteered in Al Riwaq’s The Nest, she got to know more about the artists’ community, and this encouraged her to apply for the stencil workshop there which opened a huge door for Nariman as an artist. This experience also opened a gate to another community of artists as she applied to Malja’s Call Out to get her art visible.
Nariman’s world of colours
Speaking to DT News, Nariman Adel explained how taking such initiatives gave her the courage to open doors as she said, “I got the chance of having two months training in an interior design company which made me more confident about my work as a designer. So joined a youth group to volunteer in doing some designs or construction work for events. Recently I have been visiting places and doing a lot of photography everywhere. And I got a job with an interior designer as a 3D modeling person, and this is the most exciting time of life.”
Speaking about herself as an artist and designer, she expressed that, “Art is another form of equality; it only looks at the similarities not differences. Art is about all about the feeling it gives. I tend to make everything and everyone around me my source of inspiration, observation is the best weapon for an artist.”
“My works of art are very diverse in their nature. Sketching was the first art form I did. Then I started doing more of the ink detailed art. I also tried stenciling and handcrafts. Photography is what I do when I don’t have a sketchbook or any sort of artist materials, and because I tend to be artistic and creative in everything I do, and wherever I go, I always find a way”
“As a designer it is all about making people comfortable and at home because these are the two main things that everyone wants to feel, and that is why I love it. I am currently a freelance interior designer where I make 3D modeling of places, and getting a good experience in design by learning the process of work to know people's expectations and ideas.”
