The Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate of the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science has arrested a Bahraini woman who owns two cleaning services offices.
She cooperated with two Asian men in recruiting runaway African female domestic workers. The three suspects violated the laws, especially the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) law. Twenty-nine maids and some Asians who assisted them to run away were arrested.
An investigation was launched after a case of the runaway of two maids was reported. The probe revealed that the woman illegally recruited the maids to work at home through the hours-based system for monthly salaries.
The directorate coordinated with concerned departments of the LMRA for legal proceedings, and the arrestees were referred to the Public Prosecution. The directorate has launched round the clock hotline 555 to receive human trafficking cases and complaints to promote community partnership.
