Ban Ki-moon stresses importance of UN
Seven decades after its founding, the United Nations remains a beacon for all humanity, said Secretary- General of the United Nations (UN) Ban Ki-moon in his message on the UN Day.
“Every day, the UN feeds the hungry, shelters those driven from their homes, vaccinates children who would otherwise die from preventable diseases, and defends human rights for all,” he said.
He mentioned the role played by its peacekeepers, mediators and relief workers in making the world a better place to live.
“The 70th anniversary is a moment to recognise their dedication – and to honour
the many who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” he stated.
He said no single country can address today’s challenges alone, highlighting the importance of UN.
“The timeless values of the UN Charter must remain our guide. Our duty is to unite our strength to serve,” he added.
