Afridi raises BHD36,000 from Bahrain
Around BHD36,000 was raised recently from Bahrain by a Pakistan-based charity, DT has learnt.
One of the greatest big- hitting cricketers of all time Shahid Afridi raised about Pakistan Rupee (PKR) 10 million for his charity, the Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF), at an event in Bahrain.
A fund-raising event, ‘Charity Dinner with Shahid Afridi’ was held at Gulf Convention Centre in Bahrain on October 2. Sources told DT News the all-rounder auctioned his 2015 World Cup shirt and one of his bats for PKR800,000 and PKR2m respectively, along with other personal items, at the event.
Around 400 prominent Pakistani business community members attended the charity event, in which around twenty items were auctioned.
Thanking his guests, Afridi said he was happy to see so much support for his cause from the Pakistani community in Bahrain.
He returned on Friday to Lahore to start his preparation for the three-match T20 series against England in the UAE next month. The Shahid Afridi Foundation is dedicated to promoting education, health and skills of underserved communities.
Afridi is known for his aggressive batting style, and previously held the record for the fastest ODI century in 37 deliveries. He also holds the distinction of having hit the most number of sixes and the longest six in the history of cricket.
He has taken 48 wickets in tests and 150 in ODIs. Currently, Afridi is third on the list of leading wicket takers in the Twenty20 format, behind Saeed Ajmal and Umer Gul of Pakistan, taking 73 wickets from 70 matches.
