Taiwan film festival to be held in Bahrain
Trade Mission of Taiwan to the Kingdom of Bahrain will organise the 2015 Taiwan Film Festival at the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Centre for Culture and Research in Muharraq every Wednesday starting October 28.
“We will screen four Taiwanese films and the admission is free,” Representative of the Trade Mission of Taiwan Michael T. Chen told DT News.
The opening reception will be held at 6.30pm this Wednesday, followed by the screening of the first movie ‘27°C: Loaf Rock (2013)’. The movie narrates the heart-warming tale of a poor boy who turns into a world- class baker, set in southern Taiwan and France. The other movies to be screened are Touch of Light (Nov 4), Step Back to Glory (Nov 11), and The Soul of Bread (Nov 18).
Touch of the Light is a 2012 Taiwanese drama film directed by Chang Jung-Chi. The film was selected as the Taiwanese entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, but it did not make it to the final shortlist. The story revolves around a blind music student who excels at piano but faces hardships due to his disability, and an aspiring dancer who works at a bubble tea store.
Step Back to Glory, directed by Zhang Bo-rui, tells the story of a group of young teenage girls from the Jingmei Girls High School tug- of-war team and their arduous journey from failure to success.
New directing talents Sean Kao and Lin Chun-yang make a respectable stab at romantic comedy with The Soul of Bread. The result successfully revitalizes the overworked genre with Taiwanese idiosyncrasies that easily connect with audiences.
The film also boasts a winning cast led by Michelle Chen of You Are the Apple of My Eye fame.
