The Philippine Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain has announced that the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) nomination for the first-ever Himig Migrasyon 2021: Songwriting Contest is now formally open.

The deadline for the submission of entries is on October 31, 2021. The contest aims to make music an advocacy tool to raise public awareness of the life of overseas Filipinos and the issues and challenges they face abroad.

The CFO is searching for a musical piece that will embody the inspiring and challenging life of an overseas Filipino and their migration journey.

The song will serve as a tribute to the sacrifices and important contributions of the 10 million Filipinos overseas to their host countries and to Philippine development during this time of the global pandemic.

The contest is open to all Filipino composers and songwriters, and music enthusiasts, including those based overseas. Naturalised Filipinos and Filipino descendants are also qualified to join.

A contestant may be an individual or a group of musicians in collaboration. Each entry must be an original work of the contestant and may be written in any song genre.

The song’s lyrics should be in Filipino or English (or a combination of both) and must embody the inspiring and challenging life of an overseas Filipino and their migration journey. The song could express the inspiration, joy or hardship faced by a migrant in a foreign country.

It could convey a longing for their loved ones and the motherland, overcoming challenges, or finding better opportunities and experiencing new cultures or ways of life in their host countries. Three winners will be chosen, with the following prizes: 100,000 Philippine pesos (first prize), 75,000 Philippine pesos (second prize) and 50,000 Philippine pesos (third prize).
