Bahrain ranked 12th in military expenditure compared to GDP

Bahrain has been ranked 12th globally in terms of military expenditure compared to its gross domestic product (GDP), according to the Economist’s defence spending index for the year 2020.
As per the stats provided by the international weekly newspaper, Bahrain’s defence spending constituted 3.9 per cent of the Kingdom’s GDP, placing the country seventh in the ranking of military expenditure as a percentage of GDP among the Arab countries, and fourth in the GCC region.
This amounted to $1,000 (BD378) per capita, as per the figures. Meanwhile, Oman has been ranked first worldwide with 11.7 per cent of its GDP allotted to defence expenditure, while Saudi Arabia topped the list of the defence importers after spending $3.6 billion in purchasing military gear.
