The Ministry of Labour and Social Development has received six rulings from the Judicial Committee for Childhood regarding the enforcement of the Law on Restorative Justice for Children and their Protection from Maltreatment.
Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Welfare and Social Rehabilitation Najwa Abdullatif Janahi said the rulings include enrolling convicted children in training and rehabilitation and national educational programmes and voluntary activities under the Child Protection Centre of the ministry, in accordance with the provisions of the restorative law.
The programmes, ranging between two and 15 months, take into account the children’s ability to complete the training and rehabilitation requirements according to their physical abilities and fitness, she added.
They do not exceed eight hours a day and five days a week and do not hinder the children’s education and the practice of their religious rituals.
