Bahrain’s first ambassador to Israel, Khaled Al Jalahma, arrived in Tel Aviv today to begin his diplomatic mission. Jalahman said he was "honoured" to begin his post in Tel Aviv ahead of his arrival.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry's director-general, Alon Ushpiz, said on Twitter: "We are looking forward to what will no doubt be a very productive tenure, advancing relations between our two countries."
Mr Al Jalahma was previously director of the operations directorate at Bahrain's Foreign Ministry and had also served as deputy chief of mission at the kingdom's embassy in the United States.
Earlier this month, Bahrain’s undersecretary of political affairs, Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, met with Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid in Jerusalem.
Al Jalahma was appointed in March, months after Bahrain and Israel inked the historic Abraham Accord, marking the normalisation of their bilateral relationship. The peace pact brokered by former US President Donald Trump was inked on September 20 and also included UAE.
Meanwhile, in a tweet, the Bahraini diplomat said that his deployment would serve as an opportunity to fulfil the vision of peaceful coexistence. Notably, Al-Jalahma made his account on the microblogging website earlier today with tweets in Hebrew, Arabia and English.
Signed last year at the White House, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were joined by foreign ministers of the UAE and Bahrain to commemorate the historic normalisation agreements inked between Israel and the two Arab countries under the 'Abraham Accord'.
