The battle against the COVID-19 outbreak in the Kingdom just got another booster yesterday. This time by allowing booster dose for those who had their Sputnik V jabs, also a world first.

The decision comes hot-onthe-heels of another decision made a day before allowing booster doses for vaccinated individuals who had recovered from Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

That decision updated an earlier decision denying booster for those who recovered in 2021 and completed two doses of Sinopharm, Pfizer-Biontech, AstraZeneca-Covishield, and Sputnik V jabs.

Accordingly, all those vaccinated and recovered from a COVID-19 infection are now eligible to receive a booster vaccine 12 months after the date of their recovery.

Yesterday’s move by the National Medical Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic further updates this decision. For all above 18 years Meaning, a booster dose is now available to all those above 18 years of age and who had completed six months after taking the second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine, which is a world first.

Those who completed vaccination using Sputnik V jabs could take Sputnik V itself as the booster. The decision, the Taskforce statement said, is based on national indicators and after reviewing data by competent authorities.

The trials were with the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health of Russia. Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates have already approved third booster shots using the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

The decision to allow booster for Sputnik V jabs, Taskforce said, is considered the world first. “All the decisions regarding vaccination and booster doses follow the latest developments and studies conducted by vaccination committee of the Ministry of Health and latest global studies,” the statement added.
