BD8 million maintenance for 40 public schools

Maintenance works of public schools in the Kingdom costing around BD8 million for the Works Ministry are nearing completion, justin-time for school reopening.
Essam Khalaf, the Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, said the ministry completed the maintenance of one school and started works for 17 and is evaluating the bids received for awarding projects for 22 schools. The works are ongoing in all four governorates of the Kingdom.
Civil and construction works, interior and exterior painting, renovation of toilets, repair of doors and windows, replacement of rainwater insulators and electrical works are ongoing.
During 2020, the ministry has completed the maintenance works of 46 schools, representing 21% of the schools in the public sector, of which nine are new.
Minister Khalaf said they had developed a three-year plan in coordination with the Ministry of Education for completing the maintenance works of 126 government schools.
“Works are ongoing at 44 schools in the Capital governorate, 24 in Muharraq, 34 in Northern Governorate and 24 in the Southern Governorate,” said the minister. In total, there are 217 public schools in various governorates of the Kingdom.
