Bahraini gets laurels in Muay Kaad Chuek fight

Bahraini Omran A.Rahman has emerged as the first in the Gulf region making Bahrain one of the few countries globally that got the opportunity to take part and experience the sport of Muay Kaad Chuek.

A modern sport Thailand, Muay Kaad Chuek needs special skills, as it’s one of the most dangerous competitions in the world.

“I experienced this traditional rope-binding fight in Thailand against a Thai Fighter with the experience of more than 100 fights. I represented Bahrain versus Thailand in the fight in Chaweng Boxing Stadium and won,” said Omar.

Literally means “wrapped in twine boxing,” Muay Kaad Chuek is an ancient fight. During the evolution of the martial arts Muay Boran, an innovative fighter decided to wrap his hands. The practice caught on and varying wrapping styles and applications evolved.

Some fighter’s wrapped only their hands while others covered their entire forearms. Fighters also had special techniques for making their wraps more lethal.

It was said that the fighter would dip their wrapped hands into water. The wraps  would harden as they dried. Fighters developed methods for wrapping their hands so that there would be knots or protuberances (Gon Hoi) on their knuckles for added impact.

One can still find Muay Kaad Chuek during festivals along the Myanmar, Thailand and Laos border.

“I am the first one in Bahrain to teach ancient styles of Thailand arts, and I received my 12 degree Mongol, a high degree of Muay Thai Boran,” Omran added.

Omran is the owner and teacher of Thai Martial Arts in Bahrain. The institution was established in 2013 and it offers different types of Thai martial arts.
