Bahrain to celebrate International Museum Day

Because our rich heritage, which museums both display and protect, is associated with inventiveness and vitality, both of which have characterized the museum sector in recent years and are museums’ greatest strengths,

The Kingdom of Bahrain to mark the International Museum Day with the rest of the world on May 23 to celebrate its rich cultural heritage preserved by the museums in the Kingdom.

The International Museum Day was established by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 1977 in order to increase public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society. In 2012, International Museum Day garnered record-breaking participation with almost 32,000 museums hosting events in more than 129 countries.

This year, Bahrain’s Authority for Culture & Antiquities will organize an open day for museums’ lovers to discover the hidden treasures of ancient glorious past on the day.

The day will be celebrated by offering a free entry for the public to all Bahraini museums, including the Bahrain National Museum, which will offer free boat trips to the Pearling Heritage Trail Visitor Center at Abu Maher Fort, World Heritage UNESCO List since 2012.

Lovers of history and museums will also have a reason to cheer as the

Qal'at al Bahrain (Bahrain Fort), an ancient harbor and capital of Dilmun, will observe a free entry day.

On this occasion, Sh. Salman bin Ahmad Al Fateh Fort Museum will also join the international community to draw awareness to the important role of museums in the development of society.

For those interested in discovering ancient Bahraini history, Bahrain Fort Museum is organizing series of shows as part of “ Bahrain Through Times” exhibition.

A ‘selfie’ completion is also being iorganized as part of the programme in which 5 selfies taken at the museum will win gift vouchers from our Cultural Cafés.
