Bahrain reiterates its strong support to Palestinian cause

Bahrain has reiterated its supportive and firm position on the Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and on the basis of the two-state solution and relevant international legitimacy resolutions.

This came as Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani met his Palestinian counterpart Dr Riyadh Al Maliki yesterday at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, on the sidelines of the 76th United Nations General Assembly.

During the meeting, Dr Al Zayani affirmed the strong brotherly relations between Bahrain and the State of Palestine, which is based on solid foundations of mutual respect.

The Minister also expressed his pride in the development that the relations have reached in light of the two country’s keenness to advance cooperation in order to meet common aspirations.

Dr Al Maliki commended Bahrain’s supportive stances for the Palestinian cause, praising the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, for the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state.

He expressed his appreciation for the close bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, and their keenness to develop bilateral cooperation to serve their common interests, wishing Bahrain continued progress and prosperity. The meeting also discussed political situation developments in the region, the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, in addition to a number of issues of common interest.

The Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Ruwaie and the Minister’s accompanying delegation attended the meeting.
