The Ministry of Health has announced the criteria for receiving booster shots. The guidelines follow the new booster shot protocols announced by the National Medical Task Force for Combating the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as approved by the Government executive committee.

It is to be noted that the booster shots are offered only to those who had completed their vaccination by receiving two doses. However, when the shot is available depends on the type of vaccine used for completing vaccination.

3 to 1 month

Accordingly, those aged 18 to 39 could take their booster jabs three months after receiving the second dose of Sinopharm. They could either opt for Sinopharm or Pfizer-BioNTech as a booster. However, the gap between the booster and second dose of Sinopharm is just a month for those aged 40 and above.

Those below 40 years and suffering from obesity, immunodeficiency and chronic diseases should also take a booster a month after the second dose of Sinopharm.

The booster shot can be either Sinopharm or Pfizer-BioNTech.

Six months

The gap between the second dose and booster for all other vaccine types - Pfizer-BioNTech, Covishield-AstraZeneca and SputnikV - are fixed as six months.

If you are above 18, then you are eligible for a booster. Those who used Pfizer-BioNTech for vaccination will be offered the same vaccination as a booster shot.

Those who inoculated using Covishield-AstraZeneca can opt for either the same vaccine or Pfizer-BioNTech as a booster. And those who completed vaccination using SputnikV can also choose either the same vaccine or Pfizer-BioNTech. Meaning, Pfizer-BioNTech is the only common vaccine choice available as a booster for all vaccine types.

Those recovered from the infection are also eligible to receive a booster shot. However, the gap between the second dose and booster is 12 months for them.
