Bahraini girl sues father to allow her to get married

A Bahraini girl sued her father after he rejected the proposal of a man, citing illegitimate reasons.
The High Shariat Court accepted the girl’s lawsuit, giving her the freedom to get married without her father’s approval.
The girl is said to have made many failed attempts to accept the man’s proposal, prompting her to complain to him so she can accept it without his approval, the High Shariat Court heard.
“My client’s father prevented her from marrying the person she wanted to tie the knot with for what she deemed unacceptable reasons,” the plaintiff’s lawyer told prosecutors.
According to court files, one of the reasons that the father considered against allowing his daughter to marry the man was that his mother’s sect was different to the one they are following.
