The “Smile” initiative pavilion to spread awareness of childhood cancer has been launched successfully. More than 7,000 people visited the pavilion during the threeday event held at The Avenues Mall.
Volunteers of the “Smile” project, among them a number of students from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland-Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain), supervised the pavilion from 10am until 10pm.
They distributed awareness brochures that included information about childhood cancer, its symptoms and how to prevent it, in addition to introducing the goals, programmes and activities of the initiative and its efforts to spread awareness of childhood cancer, especially in September, the International Month for Awareness of this disease.
A large number of pavilion-goers bought the gold ribbon, which symbolises sympathy with children with cancer and support for their cause.
The proceeds from this year’s tape sales are allocated by the “Smile” initiative to the Abdullah Kanoo unit at Salmaniya Hospital. The organisation of this pavilion comes within the framework of the activities of the “Our Children are Gold 8” campaign, which was launched by the “Smile” initiative in early September, and through which it works to spread awareness of childhood cancer among various segments of society, including individuals, institutions and all parties.
The head of the Future Youth Association, to which the “Smile” initiative is affiliated, Sabah Abdul Rahman Al Zayani, expressed the initiative’s pride in the unparalleled public turnout witnessed by its pavilion in the Avenues, which proves its success in reaching a large number of different segments of society, and enhancing their awareness of children’s cancer.
Al Zayani expressed his thanks to The Avenues Mall and the facilities it provided that contributed to the success of this platform. The organisation of this pavilion in the Avenues came just one week after the “Smile” initiative held a similar pavilion at the City Centre Mall. More than 5,000 people visited the pavilion.
