Bahrain recall 'feel' of tremors
The tremors of earthquake, which wreaked havoc in South Asia, especially in Afghanistan and Pakistan, were also felt in Bahrain. Many residents of Bahrain became panic after experiencing tremors around 12.15pm yesterday.
For Juffair resident Nano, it was a first experience. She was sitting with her husband in the fourth floor of a building in Juffair when she felt the tremors. The incident occurred around 12.13pm when she was sitting in the living room surfing on her cellphone.
“I felt a slight shake that lasted approximately 30 seconds. I thought that I have overworked myself but then I noticed that it wasn’t only my hand that was shaking. At that moment my husband, who was sitting opposite, asked if I had felt a shake. Only then I realised that I wasn’t imagining, and that it was real,” she recalled.
A few minutes later, her husband confirmed a strong earthquake that hit Afghanistan, India and Pakistan. “It gave me goosebumps imagining how strong it could have been and how much damage it caused. I have never experienced any earthquakes in my life,” she added.
Gudaibiya resident Olinda Fernandes said she was sitting on the sofa with legs up when earth began shaking. “I felt like I was shivering. I asked my mother-in-law if she felt any tremors. But she said ‘no.’ I thought it might be due to giddiness. When I switched on the TV later, I came to know that there was an earthquake in South Asia,” she said.
A Bahraini resident working for an insurance company said that she was in 14th floor of the building located in Sanabis when the earth began shaking. “My colleagues and I felt the tremors very clearly. We rushed out of the building,” she added.
