Ashura: Interior Minister lauds police personnel

Freedom of religion is protected by the constitution, and Interior Ministry aims to prevent illegal activities, said Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said on Sunday referring to the commendable milieu maintained for the successful Ashura by the police officers in the Kingdom. 

Appreciating the police personnel, Shaikh Rashid noted the dedication of the officials for protecting security and order during Ashura. He also expressed thanks to the Jaffary Endowment and to the heads of Maatams (community centres) that were committed to the occasion’s rituals and prevented the exploitation of their centres. 

The Minister noted the importance of a general coordination meeting to discuss violations during Ashura, including new practices and processions in new and undecided locations and times. 

Meanwhile, the General Director of Northern Governorate Police said on Sunday that a group of miscreants exploited Ashura activities in Daih. The community police officers at the scene reported the incident to the concerned authorities.
